THE SCHOOL HISTORY
The educational venture that has today blossomed into Babcock University High School (BUHS) in Babcock University (BU) started simply as a private coaching class in the middle of 1994. This was occasioned by the need to remedy the falling apart of the nation’s (Nigeria) educational system with its incessant strikes and closures. Within a short period of time, it became evident that the private coaching classes would not be enough to satisfy the spiritual and academic yearnings of the Adventist parents and their children. Thus, on January 3, 1995, Adventist Seminary High School Management Committee was set up heralding the birth of Adventist Seminary High School (ASHS) later becoming Babcock University High School. The pioneer principal was Elder Olu-Efuntade. He started with five teachers and 45 students. The first school board chairman was Pastor (Prof.) J.A.K. Makinde, while the first P.T.A chairman was Elder J.O. Dare. At the beginning, the hostels of the school were outside the school premises. The school meals were prepared and handled by Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA) cafeteria (Now Babcock Cafeteria). The first set of classrooms, in addition to one central staff room, was located within the church premises. Alternate classes in some subjects took place outside the church premises. In 1998, the baton of leadership changed from the pioneer principal to Elder D.A.Ayeni as the next principal. At that time, Elder Shem Magaji was the chairman of the schools management board. In the same vain a new P.T.A. chairman M.K.O.Oyelaja was elected. They all worked towards the progress of the school. Later on, a new board chairman was appointed in person of Elder J.O.U. Odiase. In 2002, Elder T.A. Adetayo took over the mantle of leadership as the principal of the school. Later, Pastor (Prof.) D.O.Babalola was appointed as a board chairman and a new P.T.A Chairman, Elder N.O.S. Atulomah was elected. This team also worked together to achieve development in the school. After some time, a new board chairman Pastor (Dr.) James Ogunji was appointed. He was succeeded by Prof. Dayo Alao while Mr. Jagun Olalekan and Dr. Babarinde Zaccheus worked with him as P.T.A chairmen to achieve development in the school. Under the leadership of Prof. Dayo Alao and Elder T.A. Adetayo, two new schools were established; one in Abeokuta (Ogun State) and the second is in Ogba phase 2, Ikeja (Lagos State) Nigeria. Dr. (Mrs) Janet Ola came on board as the new Chairperson for schools management board in September 2013. In January 2015, the current Principal Dr. (Mrs) Adebawojo B.O was appointed to steer the boat of school. And Dr. (Mrs) Janet Ola as the schools management board Chairperson while Mr. Akinsehinwa Akintunde succeeded Dr. Babarinde Zaccheus as the P.T.A chairman. To the glory of God, the team came on board to bring hope, transformation and positive change in terms of mental, Physical, spiritual and social life of the school. Dr. Janet Ola retired in Dec. 2015 and Prof. Luke Onuoha became the baordchairman. Also, the tenure of Mr. Akin Akinsehinwa ended and Mrs. Julie Adefulu stepped in as the chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) In January 2018, a day chool, BUHS extension was established in Ojodu Berger, between the boundaries of Ogun and Lagos State. Another school was founded in Ajangbadi area Lagos State and very soon the extension in Akure, Ondo State will take off. The vision of the founder, Babcock University Administration is to have a high school in every state of the federation.
