HOSTEL LIFE AT BABCOCK UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL

The hostel life at Babcock University High School is a very interesting and pleasant one. It could be described as home away from home. Children from various backgrounds are in the hostel regardless of their race, religion, colour, nationality, ethnic origin or sex. Children from all parts of the country, Nigeria as well as from Europe and United State of America are living peacefully and harmoniously together in the hostel. In fact, the number of foreign students has increased tremendously. The school has integrated Nigerian culture into the “foreign students”, they greet with respect according to their tribes and they accord respect to whom it is due.

Hostel staff ensures proper maintenance of the hostel facilities and peaceful co-existence of the students. They also ensure that students do morning duties, tidy up their rooms, clean the environment before leaving for school every day.

In all, 25 rooms are available for occupancy by boarders in the boys’ hostel. Each is well ventilated and tiled. There is regular power and water supply. The dimension of each of each room is 16feet by 33feet. There are befitting tiled bathrooms and toilets available for students.

Currently, laundry workers are employed to wash and iron students’ uniforms, bedspreads and blankets in junior school, while senior students are made to wash their cloths by themselves and drop with the laundry for ironing. Students are to wash their inner wears, sports wears, AYM uniforms and wrappers themselves.

Treated water flows for 24hrs each day round the week. There is also stable power (electricity) supply courtesy of Babcock University for about 16 hours every day. The lawns are always kept low. There is a sick bay during school hours and the Babcock University Teaching Hospital is just few meters from the hostels in case of medical attention during and after school hours.

In a nutshell, appropriate and adequate medical facilities are available to the students. The response of the hostels’ administration to emergency is quite prompt and encouraging.

A glance at the daily activities in the school reveals a busy schedule. The activities for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays are similar while that of Wednesday and Fridays differ a little bit due to evening worship services. On Saturdays we have full morning worship because of our belief in keeping the Sabbath day Holy (Exodus 20:8-11).
